Koh Bon

Koh Bon is a dive site located in the Similan National Park, situated in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand. The island is approximately 20 kilometers northwest of the main group of Similan Islands.

The underwater landscape of Koh Bon is impressive, offering a variety of underwater formations such as reefs, rock formations, and pinnacles. The reefs are covered with colorful corals that provide a multitude of habitats for marine life. There are also overhangs, crevices, and caves to explore. The underwater scenery is generally well-preserved, providing an impressive backdrop for divers.

Marine diversity at Koh Bon is abundant. Apart from the impressive manta rays for which the dive site is known, there is a variety of other marine inhabitants. Divers can spot barracudas, tunas, groupers, eagle rays, stingrays, leopard sharks, and a wide range of reef fish. The coral reefs are populated by colorful tropical fish, nudibranchs, crustaceans, and other invertebrates.

The Koh Bon dive site is particularly famous for its large marine creatures, especially encounters with manta rays. The chances of seeing mantas here are very high. The island has two main dive sites: Koh Bon Pinnacle and Koh Bon West Ridge.

Koh Bon Pinnacle is an underwater mountain that drops down to a depth of about 30 meters. Here, divers can observe a variety of marine life, including barracudas, tunas, groupers, and different species of reef fish. Manta rays are often encountered near the pinnacle while they are feeding on plankton.

Koh Bon West Ridge is a shallower dive site located on the western side of the island. There are various coral formations providing an ideal habitat for a variety of reef fish and invertebrates. Divers can also encounter eagle rays, stingrays, and leopard sharks here.
The diving conditions at Koh Bon are usually good. Visibility typically ranges between 20 and 30 meters, providing clear views of the underwater world. Water temperatures usually range between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius, offering pleasant diving conditions.

Day trips to Koh Bon are offered by diving schools and tour operators such as Wetzone Divers Dive Center Khao Lak in the area. Our own dive speed boat, the "Blue Marlin," departs from Nam Kem (approximately 20 kilometers north of Khao Lak) and takes about 1 hour to reach the dive site.
Day trips include two dives with breaks for surface intervals and rest/lunch between dives.

Koh Bon is a stunning dive site suitable for both experienced divers and beginners and snorkelers. With its rich marine life and the possibility of encountering manta rays, it is a highlight for any diver exploring the Similan National Park.
