Sharks overheating
The Ocean’s Apex Predators Are Feeling the Heat
Great White sharks and other mesothermic (warm-blooded) fish are facing a "double jeopardy" due to rising ocean temperatures. While their unique physiology once offered a predatory edge, they now risk lethal overheating. These predators burn four times more energy than cold-blooded fish and struggle to shed excess heat as they grow larger. Consequently, they are forced to migrate toward polar regions or dive into deeper, food-scarce waters to stay cool. This metabolic crisis threatens the survival of these iconic species and the overall stability of marine ecosystems.
