Richelieu Rock is located in the Andaman Sea, about 18 kilometers east of Surin Island and approximately 200 kilometers north of Phuket. It is one of the most famous dive sites in Thailand.
The underwater landscape of Richelieu Rock is fascinating. The dive site consists of a single limestone rock that rises from the depths of the sea and extends just below the water surface. Around the rock, there is a variety of colorful coral formations, gorgonians, anemones, and sponges. There are numerous overhangs, crevices, and reefs that can be explored.
Richelieu Rock is known for its impressive marine diversity. Divers have the opportunity to discover a wide variety of marine creatures. Common sightings include large schools of barracudas, mackerels, and other pelagic fish.
It is also a hotspot for whale sharks, especially from February to May. Mantas, leopard sharks, nudibranchs, and a variety of other fish species are also frequently encountered. The underwater world around Richelieu Rock is a paradise for underwater photographers and nature enthusiasts.
The diving conditions around Richelieu Rock can vary depending on the prevailing currents. Sometimes, there can be strong currents, so it's important for divers to have experience in diving with currents. Visibility is usually excellent and can reach up to 30 meters. The diving depth ranges from 5 to 40 meters, with the best sightings often occurring in the slightly deeper areas.
Day trips from Khao Lak with Wetzone Divers Dive Center Khao Lak are regularly offered four times a week, using our own high-speed dive boat, the "Blue Marlin," to reach Richelieu Rock.
Our boat usually departs in the morning at 8:45 am and returns in the afternoon around 4:00 pm.
During the excursion, typically two dives are conducted. There is also time for surface intervals and refreshments/lunch on board. It is advisable to check the weather conditions before booking a dive trip, as bad weather may affect the trip or require alternative destinations.
